Israel Unveiled: Israeli Druze Sanabel Leadership Program

Making up 1.6% of Israel’s total population and 7.4% of its Arab population, the Druze people share an Arab culture, speak Arabic, and follow a religion that, while an offshoot of Islam, is considered secretive. In 1948, they chose to distance themselves from mainstream Arab nationalism and have since played a significant role in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), initially as volunteers and later through compulsory service. Today, nearly all Druze men serve in combat roles within the IDF.

The Sanabel Leadership Program, more than three years in development, is making a significant impact as the leading leadership initiative for Israeli Druze teenagers. Ofer Bavly, Director General of JUF's Israel Office, will discuss the program's evolution and the opportunities it offers this minority community for skill-building, connection, and leadership growth.
