Congregation Ohev Tzedek-Shaarei Torah Cemetery

Ohev Tzedek was organized in 1920 and chartered as an Orthodox synagogue in 1922. Beginning services were held in members' homes, and later in local businesses.
The congregation’s first temple, at 93 East Myrtle Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio, was dedicated on March 21, 1926, less than a year after a double cornerstone ceremony was held. In 1953, Ohev Tzedek merged with Shaarei Torah Congregation, which had been inactive since about 1944.
Shaarei Torah was founded around 1890-1910 when Jewish families began to settle on the East side of Youngstown. They organized as an Orthodox congregation when they started meeting at 401 East Federal Street, Youngstown after becoming too big to meet in member homes. When they purchased land from John F. and Lucetta Fink in 1911, the deed stated a portion of the land was to be used as a cemetery. That cemetery on Tippecanoe came with the merger with Ohev Tzedek.
The cemetery is located on the west side of Tippecanoe Road in Canfield Township.
