Donations Help Provide Meals to Those in Need

Jewish Family & Community Services and Jewish Community Center recently received donations from community members for their mobile meals program.

“A gentleman who heard about our meal program stopped at JFCS and wrote out a check for $600 to go towards giving meals to individuals in need,” said Ken Bielecki, JFCS director. “This was a wonderful gesture.”

Another individual donated $60. “Every amount helps,” Bielecki added.

These donations will enable JFCS and JCC to provide over 110 freshly prepared meals to individuals and families in need.

In March, JFCS and JCC expanded the program to include a private pay option. The fully prepared, frozen meals are now available to anyone in Mahoning and Trumbull counties for home delivery or pick up. The kosher style meals are cooked by JCC staff and include an entrée and two sides. The cost per meal is $6, with a five meal minimum.

To date, over 200,000 meals have been delivered to nearly 800 individuals 60 and older in need in Mahoning, Trumbull, and northern Columbiana counties, showing the clear need for home delivery of meals. Funding for this critical service ended, prompting JFCS and JCC to offer it to the community for a nominal fee.

Donations for the mobile meals program are welcome. Contact JFCS at 330.746.7929 for more information or to donate.
