Akiva Academy Alumni Spotlight
With the expansion project underway, we're spotlighting some Akiva alumni!
Let's meet Akiva Academy alum Alyssa Schor!
When did you attend Akiva Academy?
I started at Akiva in 1999 and graduated in 2006.
Illinois
What career did you choose?
I currently work in public relations.
Share your experience at Akiva Academy and how it equipped you for the future.
My experience was positive! I had the unique benefit of intimate class sizes that allowed for substantial one-on-one attention from teachers. Both my secular and Jewish education were interactive and prepared me for academic success in middle school and beyond.
Share your favorite memory from attending Akiva Academy.
The sixth grade trip to Washington, D.C., writing a children's book with my sixth grade class and reading it to the younger students, and wearing one of my dad's ties and sport coats while playing George W. Bush in the mock school-wide presidential election of 2004 (I lost).
How does Akiva Academy still play a role in your life today?
Akiva provided me with a foundational Jewish education and helped me engage with the holidays and traditions I first learned in elementary school. Because I attended a Jewish day school where Hebrew and Judaica were integrated into our daily curriculum, I often feel that I have a deeper understanding of certain prayers and customs compared to my Jewish peers who may not have received such a rigorous education.
